Privacy policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Modus is a desktop application made by Luis Varela, an individual based in Chile (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the Modus application and this website (getmodus.dev) handle, and where that data goes. The short version: Modus runs on your computer, has no server of its own and collects no telemetry. We do not receive your data.

1. Signing in with Google

Modus asks you to sign in with Google to create your profile. It requests only the basic identity scopes openid, email and profile, which give Modus:

Modus uses this information only to name and separate your profiles on your own computer. The sign-in tokens Google returns are stored in your operating system’s keychain (on Linux without a keyring, in a file only your user can read). Modus does not read your Gmail, Drive, Calendar or any other Google data, and it does not send your Google information to us or to anyone else.

Modus’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. Services you connect

You can connect Jira (through Atlassian’s sign-in), GitHub and Bitbucket. Modus then reads, directly from your computer, the cards assigned to you, your repositories’ branches and pull requests, CI results and review comments. The access tokens for these services are stored in your keychain. Those services see the requests Modus makes on your behalf, under their own privacy policies.

3. Your work data

Cards, briefs, notes, pull request details, CI logs, review comments and your conversations with agents are stored on your disk: in a local database and in folders under your home directory, and in your git repositories and their worktrees. You can open, copy or delete these files at any time; uninstalling Modus and deleting its folder (~/.modus) removes them.

4. AI coding agents

Modus starts AI coding agents — Claude Code (Anthropic) or Kiro CLI (Amazon Web Services) — that you have installed and signed in to with your own account. What an agent reads or writes (your code, the card’s text, files you attach, your messages) is sent by that agent to its provider and handled under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. Modus does not proxy, store remotely or inspect that traffic.

5. What Modus does not do

When you report a problem, the app’s “Copy report” button copies a report to your clipboard; nothing is sent unless you choose to send it to us.

6. This website

getmodus.dev is a static website hosted by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. If you email us, we keep your message to answer it.

7. Your rights

Because your data lives on your computer, you control it directly: you can see, correct, export or delete it there. Under Chilean data protection law (Law 19,628 and, from its entry into force, Law 21,719) and other laws that may apply to you, you can also ask us about any personal data we hold about you — in practice, only emails you sent us — and ask for access, correction, deletion, portability or to object to its use, by writing to hello@getmodus.dev.

8. Children

Modus is a tool for software developers and is not directed at children under 16.

9. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date. A change in what Modus collects will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
